For Josh and I, having a reliable, nearby, inexpensive but good sushi restaurant (that delivers as wells as offers in house dining), is essential. However, when we moved to the River West neighborhood from Lakeview (the land of plenty o' BYOB sushi and pan asian joints), we were concerned we wouldn't be able to find a good replacement spot. Thankfully, Metromix came to the rescue, and directed our senses towards Butterfly Sushi (1156 W. Grand Ave., 312-563-5555)!
Butterfly is a small establishment on Grand Avenue. Although the decor is somewhat strange (bright orange walls, weird kitschy cartoony things on the bar, some random fountains, etc.), and the music choices aren't always optimal (sometimes I just don't want to hear 50-cent on a Sunday afternoon, you know?), the sushi is really more than satisfactory- which is all I really care about. Afterall, when you're looking for something inexpensive and guaranteed like this, you can't expect everything to be perfection.
Josh and I always start off with some Thai iced teas (during the day - at night, it's BYO, so grab some wine on your way!), which are kind of difficult to describe, but are genuinely creamy, sweet and delicious. Then, I go for the miso soup ($1.50), while Josh prefers the also tasty - but heartier - Tom Yum with Chicken ($2.95).
Next, we move on to some sashimi and rolls. Their sashimi is always well cut, and the fish very fresh. As for the maki, my absolute must-have favorite is the Crunchy Spicy Tuna - pictured below - ($6.00), which features spicy tuna (not mayonaisse-y, which is great), and avocado rolled in tempura crumb and topped with two dots of spicy chili sauces. Also good are the Spider Rolls ($7.00) with soft-shell crab, and the Sunrise Roll ($12.00), wrapped in shrimp and topped with salmon roe.

They don't get overly creative and inventive with their sushi offerings, just keeping it simple, which is just what I want from an everyday sushi spot. Plus, the prices really can't be beat for the quality.

You guys don't know how lucky you are! Sushi in London can cost more up to $13 (£7) for 3 salmon nigiri, 3 salmon maki and thats it, not even miso soup - and that's at the cheaper takeaway, build your own bento boxes. It doesn't serve me or my sushi cravings well.
